TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) denounced the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history that left hundreds killed and injured.

OIC Condemns Las Vegas Mass Shooting

At least 59 people were killed and nearly 530 others injured when a gunman opened fire at a music concert in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday.

The nonstop gunfire sent bystanders outside the resort scrambling for their lives while tourists hid in their hotel rooms.

Disturbing footage showed the aftermath as the injured lay on stretchers or on the ground with responders and bystanders trying to provide assistance.

The gunman rained down bullets from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino for several minutes before shooting himself dead, according to police.

Earlier reports indicated that the gunman, identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock from Mesquite, Nevada, had been shot by police.

While the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group claimed responsibility for the shooting, according to the group’s news agency, it provided no evidence to back up its claim and US investigators have said they have so far found no connection between Paddock and Daesh.

In a message, OIC Secretary General Yousef Al-Othaimeen condemned the deadly attack and underlined the OIC’s principled policy of rejecting all forms of violence and terror.

Noting that terrorism is not connected to any religion, race or country, he stressed the need for regional and international efforts to fight the phenomenon.
