Iranians Demonstrated Brilliance, Power of Religious Democracy

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in a message thanked Iranians for their massive turnout in last week’s parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections.

The Iranian nation managed to participate in countrywide elections for the 36th time since the victory of the Islamic Revolution and determine the fate of the country, the Leader said in the message on Sunday.

Ayatollah Khamenei thanked God that the aware and determined Iranian nation came out victorious in yet another great test.

The high turnout of Iranians in the votes once again showed the bright and mighty face of religious democracy to the world, His Eminence added.

The Leader expressed gratitude to the Iranian nation for heeding the Islamic Establishment’s call for going to the ballots in their masses and prayer for Divine blessings and rewards for the people who created this epical achievement.

Elsewhere in the message, Ayatollah Khamenei urged the country’s officials, including those elected in the Friday polls, to be grateful to the Iranian nation and strive for sincerely serving the people.

The Leader also stressed the need for Iranians, especially official, to remain vigilant and determined in the current sensitive times.

Iran on Friday held parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections simultaneously. At least 33 million out of the 55 million eligible voters, or 60 percent, took part in the polls.

As many as 4,844 candidates, including about 500 women, were competing for a place in the 290-seat parliament. A total of 159 candidates ran for the 88-member Assembly of Experts, which is constitutionally tasked with selecting a leader when the need arises.
