ICRO Offers Condolences over Death of Ayatollah Vaez Tabasi

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) issued a message of condolences over the passing away of senior Iranian cleric Ayatollah Abbas Vaez Tabasi, who was the custodian of Imam Reza (AS) Holy Shrine in Mashhad.

In its message, the organization described Ayatollah Vaez Tabasi as a companion of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini (RA) and Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

It praised Ayatollah Vaez Tabasi’s performance as the custodian of Imam Reza (AS) Holy Shrine and highlighted his role in different other capacities, including membership of the Assembly of Experts and Supreme Cultural Revolution Council.

Ayatollah Tabasi died at the age of 80 on Friday morning a week after being hospitalized in the holy city of Mashhad due to respiratory complications.

Ayatollah Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani sent messages of condolences on the departure of the veteran cleric.

He had served as the custodian of Astan Quds Razavi, a charity foundation which oversees the holy shrine of Imam Reza and various related institutions, since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
