Int’l Quds Day, Symbol of Muslim Unity
Speaking to IQNA, Ramezan Sharif noted that the motto of this year’s international event is "International Quds Day, Symbol of Unity and Jihad of Islamic Ummah, Support for Palestinian People, and Definite Demise of the Zionist Regime”.
He said due to crises in Muslim countries created by the world arrogance, Zionists and regional reactionary regimes, the issue of Palestine has been somehow sidelined in the past few years but stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always made efforts to prevent the issue from sliding into oblivion.
Sharif said Quds is the first Qibla of Islam and a sacred place and, therefore, the issue of Quds and Palestine is a pivot of unity of the Muslim Ummah.
He highlighted the importance the Iranian nation attaches to the International Quds Day rallies and to the liberation of Palestine and said massive participation in the upcoming rallies marking the occasion will enhance the ant arrogance and anti-injustice discourse of the Islamic Revolution and draw the world’s attention to the Zionist regime’s oppression of Palestinians in the past eight decades.
The International Quds Day is an annual event during which demonstrators express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and opposition to the occupation of the Palestinian territories by the Zionist regime of Israel.
The day is also seen as the legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini (RA), who officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.
This year, Muslims world over will mark the International Quds Day on June 23.
