TEHRAN (IQNA) – The second edition of a regional Quran memorization and Tajweed competition in Mauritania was held from June 19 to 22.

According to Sahara Media, the country's Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Education organized the competition titled "Muhammad Walad Abdul Aziz Award”.

The Mauricenter Hotel in Nouakchott, the capital city of Mauritania, hosted the Quranic event for four days.

Representatives from Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, The Gambia, Senegal. Ivory Coast and Nigeria participated in the competition.

It was opened in a ceremony with the presence of governor of the Western Nouakchott, secretary general of the ministry, advisor to the minister of media and head of the Mauritania’s National Union of Imams of Mosques.

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in North Africa.

Muslims make up over 98 percent of the population.
