TEHRAN (IQNA) – Hezbollah resistance movement’s secretary general underlined that the victories of Iraq and Syria over Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) were a major triumph that signaled the end of the terrorist group.

Iraq, Syria Victories Mark End of Daesh: Nasrallah

Speaking in a televised address to the Lebanese nation in capital city of Beirut on Monday, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said Daesh’s defeat in the Iraqi city of Rawa was tantamount to the end of the Takfiri terror group, al-Alam news agency reported.

He said recapturing the Syrian city of Bukamal was also a major victory over Daesh, because it was the last city in the Arab country occupied by the Takfiri group.

The Hezbollah chief criticized US claims about fighting terrorism, saying Washington spared no effort to help Daesh forces in Bukamal.

"The US helped Daesh as much as it could in Bukamal short of directly engaging forces that fought to liberate the town from Daesh.”

He added that the US provided Daesh terrorists with full air cover in Bukamal.

The US sent its drones to Bukamal and provided Daesh with accurate information about what was going on, Nasrallah said, adding that American forces also waged electronic warfare against forces that were fighting to liberate Bukamal.

American forces also provided air transfer for Daesh commanders and facilitated their escape to eastern shores of the Euphrates, he said. The Hezbollah leader stated that even Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan slammed the US for helping Daesh.

Nasrallah emphasized that recapturing Bukamal led to unity of Syria and ended Daesh’s self-proclaimed state in the country.

Elsewhere, the Hezbollah leader praised the Islamic Republic of Iran for its role in helping Iraq and Shria in their fight against Daesh.

He appreciated the Iranian people and Leader for their support for the fight against the Takfiri terrorists and especially thanked Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ Quds Force Major General Qassem Soleimani for his role at the forefront of anti-terror operations in both Iraq and Syria.

Nasrallah further expressed his condolences to the Iranian nation, government and Leader over the recent earthquake in western Iran that left over 400 dead and nearly 10,000 injured.

He added that the Iranian people’s participation in relief efforts after the quake showed the strong bond between the country’s nation and government.

The tremor, measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale, hit the Iran-Iraq border region on Sunday, November 12.

The quake’s epicenter was near Halabjah, southeast of Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah. It left massive damages in the Iranian border province of Kermanshah.
