TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Awqaf Office of Port Saeed in Egypt said a Quran memorization competition will be held for the youth of the city on the birthday anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

According to Masrawy website, the office has planned the competition for the Quran memorizers who are under 25 years of age.

Applicants should not be a member of the Quran reciters center, imams of mosques, preachers or Tajweed teachers.

The office added that top participants in the categories of the entire Quran memorization and recitation will be awarded cash prizes of up to 10,000 Egyptian pounds.

The 17th day of the month of Rabi al-Awwal in the lunar Hijri calendar (November 25 this year) is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month (November 20) as the birthday of the last prophet.

Egypt is a country in North Africa with a population of around 96 million.

Muslims account for around 90 percent of the country’s total population.

Quranic activities are very common in the Arab country.
