Ayatollah Sistani’s Representative Honors Winners of Iraq’s Quran Contest

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The representative of Iraq’s top Shia cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in Karbala honored winners of a national Quran competition.

 

According to the website of the Astan (custodianship) of the Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine, Sheikh Mahdi al-Karbalayi attended a ceremony in which the top-rank winners were lauded for their achievement.

They had competed in the categories of recitation and memorization of the Holy Quran.

According to Sheikh Hassan al-Mansouri, head of the Astan’s Dar-ol-Quran center which organized the competition, winners of the first rank will be awarded a Hajj pilgrimage trip while those who came second and third will be send on pilgrimage to the holy city of Mashhad, Iran.

Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.

There has been a growing trend of Quranic programs such as competitions, recitation sessions and educational programs held in the country in recent years.
