Great Mosque of Kufa in Photos
TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Great Mosque of Kufa, near the Iraqi holy city of Najaf, is among major mosques in the Muslim world.
For Shia Muslims, it is the fourth most important mosque in the world after Masjid al-Haram, Al Masjid an Nabawi, and Al-Aqsa Mosque. It is believed that Prophet Adam (AS) built the mosque and it has been visited throughout its history by many prophets and saints, including Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Imam Ali (AS), Imam Hassan (AS) and Imam Hussein (AS).
There are a number of historic buildings around the mosque, including Imam Ali’s (AS) historic house and the shrines of Myatham Tammar, Muslim ibn Aqil, Hani ibn Orwa, and Mukhtar al-Thaqafi.
