TEHRAN (IQNA) – A ceremony was held at the Islamic Center of England in London on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Titled “Toward the 2nd 40 Years of Religious Democracy”, the program, held on Monday, also commemorated senior Iranian commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi top commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who were martyred in a drone attack in Iraq last month.

It was attended by a large number of people and religious, scholarly and political figures.

In an address, head of the center Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Hashem Mousavi described Iran’s Islamic Revolution as the continuation of Imam Hussein’s (AS) uprising.

He added that the spiritual achievements of the Islamic Revolution, such as seeking martyrdom and promoting the spirit of self-sacrifice, are like those of the Imam Hussein (AS) uprising.

Hojat-ol-Islam Mousavi further referred to the 40th day after martyrdom of General Soleimani and al-Muhandis and highlighted the two martyrs’ popularity worldwide, noting that memorial services were held for them in nearly 100 countries.

Every year, millions of Iranians across the country observe ten days of celebrations marking the anniversary of the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution that put an end to the monarchy of the US-backed Pahlavi regime in the country.

The day of Imam Khomeini’s return to Iran marks the beginning of the Ten Days of Dawn, which culminates with rallies on the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution on February 11.

The Iranian nation toppled the US-backed Pahlavi regime 41 years ago, ending the 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.

The Islamic Revolution spearheaded by the late Imam Khomeini established a new political system based on Islamic values and democracy.

Another speaker at the Monday program at the Islamic Center of England was Iran’s Ambassador to Britain Hamid Baeidinejad who elaborated on the challenges the Islamic Revolution has been facing since it achieved victory 41 years ago and said these challenges has strengthened the revolution.

Also addressing the event was Father Frank Gelli, an Anglican priest and cultural critic and commentator. He said the Islamic Revolution sought to revive and promote Divine messages.

He also condemned the assassination of General Soleimani and al-Muhandis as a move that violated international law and even US laws.

General Soleimani, al-Muhandis, and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of January 3.

The White House and the Pentagon claimed responsibility for the assassination of General Soleimani in Iraq, saying the attack was carried out at the direction of US President Donald Trump.
