TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Lebanese social activist underlined the need for promotion of true Islamic values to counter Islamophobia and anti-Islamic moves.

Addressing a webinar that was held Sunday as part of the 34th International Islamic Unity Week, Rubab al-Jawhari said the potentials of the Muslim world media ought to be used on the path of spreading true Islamic values.

This is a step to counter the West’s media campaign against Islam and Muslims, she added.

Jawhari also referred to the coronavirus pandemic and said while the West only attaches importance on the economic impacts of the pandemic, Islam gives priority to humanity and various aspects of human life.

She said the views of Islam about calamities and how to act in times of disaster should be elaborated.

Another speaker at the webinar was Kuwaiti scholar Qadir Jamal who talked about the Zionist plots against the Muslim Ummah and the world arrogance’s cultural onslaughts.

The Muslim world media play a major role in countering these plots and onslaughts, she said, adding that cultural and literary activities should also be strengthened in the Muslim world.

This year, the Islamic Unity Week programs are being held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which falls on November 3 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.

Late Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
