Prominent Syrian Hadith Expert Passes Away

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Mohammad Ajaj al-Khatib, a renowned Syrian expert in the field of Hadith, died at the age of 89.

 

The scholar died on Monday night, according to khaberni.com website.

Born in Damascus in 1932, al-Khatib got a BA from Sharia Faculty of University of Damascus in 1959.

He defended his MA thesis in 1962 and went on to get a PhD in the science of Hadith from the University of Cairo in 1966.

His PhD dissertation was on emergence of new fields of knowledge and new terms related to them.

The Syrian scholar continued his studies in the field of Hadith at the Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU) in Riyadh, and Umm Al Qura University in Mecca.

He headed the Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Studies at the University of Sharjah from 1997 to 2002.

He was also the president of the Quran and Sunna Department of the University of Damascus, and Islamic Studies Department at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU).

 Al-Khatib wrote numerous books and papers in the field of Hadith, Quranic sciences and history of Islam.
