Iranian, Azerbaijani Officials Stress Scholarly Cooperation

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran’s Cultural Attaché in the Republic of Azerbaijan Qorbanali Poormarjan met Agil Shirinov, the rector of Azerbaijan Institute of Theology in Baku.

 

In the meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of developing scholarly cooperation and interaction between Iran and Azerbaijan, especially in the field of theology and Islamic sciences.

Poormarjan elaborated on the status of humanities and religious sciences in Iran’s universities, and voiced readiness for cooperation in various fields with the Baku-based institute.

Shirinov, for his part, referred to the activities of the institute and said it welcomes contribution of Iranian scholars to those activities especially by sending papers in English, Arabic and Azeri languages.

He also noted that teaching the Persian language will be part of the institute’s educational programs as of next year, adding that it would be a positive step toward developing the ties between the two countries.

Launched on September 17, 2018, the Theology Institute of Azerbaijan is an Azerbaijani higher education institution specializing in theology. It operates under the direction of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan. At present, three departments and one faculty comprise the institution.
