Iran Nat’l Quran Contest: Contenders Take Exam in Tafseer Category

TEHRAN (IQNA) – While the final round of the 44th edition of Iran’s national Quran competition is slated to kick off on Monday, the contenders in the Tafseer (interpretation) category, have already started their contests.

A total of 135 contestants, including 123 Shias and 8 Sunnis, took an examination in the final round of this category.  

In the exam, which was held in person, they answered 40 multiple-choice questions as well as four descriptive questions.

They answered the questions on different aspects of interpretation of the Quranic verses in an hour.

The answer sheets will be graded this week and the top scorers will be awarded at the closing ceremony of the competition on Friday.

According to Mehdi Qarasheikhlu, head of the Quranic Affairs Center of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, some 220 Quran memorizers and reciters have made it to the finals of this year’s contest.

There are seven categories in the men’s section while women compete in five categories, the official stated.

The categories include memorization, recitation, and interpretation of the Holy Quran.

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s National Quran Competition is annually held by the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization with the participation of top Quran activists from across the country.

It is aimed at discovering Quranic talents and promoting Quranic activities in society.
