IQNA – The Metropolitan Police are on the hunt for a suspect involved in a hate crime in Stoke Newington, North London, where a Muslim woman was assaulted and her hijab forcibly removed.

The incident, which occurred on November 18, resulted in facial injuries for the victim, The Standard reported on Saturday.

Authorities released an image on Saturday of an individual they are seeking in connection with the racially and religiously charged attack.

The victim, a woman in her 40s accompanied by her three children, had just exited a shop on Stoke Newington High Street when she encountered the suspect, who directed an offensive gesture at her.

Upon questioning the suspect's actions, the victim was subjected to racial slurs and physical violence, including a strike to the face and the grabbing of her hijab.

Detective Constable Harriet Ford, who is spearheading the investigation, described the ordeal as particularly “terrifying” since it took place in front of the victim's children.

“I would ask the public to take a good look at this image and consider if you have any information about her identity,” Ford stated.

The Metropolitan Police are treating the case as a hate crime and have appealed to the public for assistance.

Witnesses or those with knowledge of the suspect's identity are encouraged to contact the police by calling 101 and referencing CRIS 4632311/23.
