TEHRAN (IQNA) – People do everything to reach happiness because they believe they should have the best life in this world. But there are people who think happiness is not just in this world and that one must strive to reach happiness in the hereafter as well.

Surah Al-Ma'un

Al-Ma’un is the 107th chapter of the Quran that has 7 verses and is in the 30th Juz.

It is Makki and the 17th Surah of the Quran revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Ma’un has been defined as properties, wealth, necessities of life and also Zakat. The word Ma’un comes in the last verses of the Surah, giving the chapter its name.

The Surah warns those who pretend to be Muslim but show hypocritical behaviors, such as not saying prayers and not giving Zakzat (alms), actions that contradict the belief in the Resurrection Day.

The chapter then highlights the characteristics of those who deny the Resurrection Day, such as avoiding almsgiving, refusing to help orphans and the poor, neglecting Salah and being hypocritical in their actions.

The first verse, addressing the Holy Prophet (PBUH), says: “Have you seen the one who calls the (Deen) a lie?”

There are different views about the meaning of the word ‘Deen’. Some say it refers to the Resurrection Day, and some believe it is about the rewards and punishments for actions.

So it criticizes those who have no belief in the Resurrection Day and in divine rewards and punishments.

The Surah then enumerates bad deeds of those who deny the Resurrection Day.

They do not have good conducts because they only consider life in this world as being important and see no need for striving to reach happiness in the next world. That is why they do things that are not appropriate according to the religion and morality.

For example, they turn away orphans and refuse to help them despite being wealthy.

They are also hypocritical and heedless of their prayers and refuse to help the needy.
